Testimonials

"Laurence has patiently and kindly shown me the way out of my addictions, going with me into the darkness where their causes were. She showed me the way to understand and overcome my damage. She is instinctive, quietly learned, and 100% supportive. I cannot recommend her highly enough. "

K, 67yr.

Ms Laurence Baretto De Souza

As an Integrative Therapist, I use different modalities to fit my clients needs, learning curves and communications styles, personality and state of mind. I also adapt to fit my clients' physical health, integrating body and mind work within the process of change.

My clients have told me that they find me easy to talk to, that I am non-judgemental. I have worked with people facing all sorts of issues including addiction, adoption, abuse (domestic, historical sexual abuse, neglect, and other types of abuse), grieving and losses, life changes. I have also worked with people who suffer from Depression, OCD, PTSD, Eating Disorders and other mental health problems.

I worked as a Therapist at the Priory (now Elysium Healthcare) from February 2015 to June 2020. There, I have worked for the Addiction Treatment Program and for the CBT team.

I have worked with people focusing on their personal exploration and development.

I have had the chance to train as a Dance or Awareness Practitioner in 2020 at the Brighton School of Embodied Therapy

I have also been learning about Somatic Experiencing as a way of integrating more of the body and physiological processes into the therapy and have also been specialising in the understanding and the treatments of Chronic or Persistent Pain.

I have been practicing and studying Mindfulness and have been integrating Mindfulness more into my practice. I used to volunteer at Pavilions Alcohol and Drug Services at the Mindfulness drop-in session weekly. I am currently running this Mindfulness drop-in online. It is open to all and you can find more details on my Facebook page about this.

I have been working as Counsellor/Psychotherapist for over 20 years. During this time I have accumulated over 1000 hours of 1 to 1 of counselling and I have facilitated 800 therapeutic groups.

You can also find out more about me on the Counselling Directory and at Psychology Sussex

Client's testimony June 2020:

I found Laurence's mindfulness therapy during a really difficult time in my life, after the Covid19 crisis triggered old anxiety and panic attacks.

I had encountered mindfulness practice in the past but not one to one with an experienced practitioner. Laurence really made me feel at ease from our first conversation, allowing a safe space for me to start my healing journey and trust that I would be in good hands.

Laurence's therapy is based on years of learning and experience but also very person-centred. It's shown me how I can practice mindfulness techniques in my everyday life and even in the most stressful situations. Most importantly for me is that during our sessions I feel respected and valued as a person, not treated like another client who needs fixing, as countless therapists and doctors have treated me in the past. Laurence listens with all of her senses, encourages you to open up and supports you to explore even your most traumatic life experiences with a sense of curiosity and adventure.

If you're feeling stressed, anxious and lost, if you're searching for answers to all the questions you've ever asked yourself, I highly recommend Laurence as a coach. You won't be given the answers to all your questions, instead you'll be encouraged and empowered to find out for yourself.
